Cemetary
The City of Roxboro Public Services department is responsible for maintaining the cemetery grounds of Burchwood Cemetery, created in the early 1900's and located at 650 Old Durham Road, Roxboro, NC (also known as the City Cemetery, Eanes & Oakley, Burchwood, Burchwood Annex, Peace Memorial and Peace Gardens).

Site Maintenance & Plot Information
- City Responsibility: The City of Roxboro Public Services department provides landscaping and grounds maintenance only.
- Plot Sales: Due to limited documentation, the city is not involved in the private sale of plots. All transactions and disputes are private civil matters between the individual parties. The city does plan to extend the cemetery (on the back section) in the future. Once construction is completed, the city will begin selling plots in the new section only.
- Deed Records: Recorded cemetery deeds are on file at the Person County Register of Deeds, but these only document the purchaser, not the individuals buried and often not the number of plots per lot. The City Clerk and Register of Deeds are actively working to improve these records.
Burial Mapping & Indexing Project
- Mapping Progress: In 2020, City staff and volunteers with the Burchwood Preservation Society partnered to map and index the cemetery.
- New Markers: The city has purchased new markers that are currently being placed by section to delineate rows.
- Timeline: This project encompasses over 200 rows and is being completed by City staff as time and budget permit. The future goal is to create an easy-to-navigate, online database with biographical information-we will be looking for volunteers to assist with the database!
