General Fire Safety

Educating the public at home and at work is very important to us. A few tips on general safety can help you avoid fire hazards or be able to act quickly if a fire does occur.
Smoke Detectors
Make sure they are in place and operable. Mention the importance of smoke detectors at home as well as at the work place.
Stress importance of exit drills at home.

Fire Extinguishers
Make yourself familiar with closest fire extinguisher in your work area
Are aisles clear and are fire extinguishers visible at all times

Personal Safety
Adults as well as children should

Stop, drop, and roll if their clothes catch on fire

Crawl under smoke

Don’t panic

SPECIAL LOCATION…Medical Offices, Dentist Offices, when presenting classes to these groups additional points of interest maybe helpful.

Make sure every patient is assisted (if needed) in the evacuation.

During fire alarm drills make sure audible alarm is loud enough to be heard behind closed doors.

Be sure evacuation plans are understandable and visible to patients.
Exits
Are there two ways out of your work area (home)?

Are they clear paths to an exit?

Are there exit signs with illuminated lights, are they working at all times?

Does your employer practice fire drills?

Do the emergency lights work in your work area?

Make sure you exit the building when you hear the fire alarm, even if you know it’s a practice drill? Develop a process of accounting for everyone in your work area at your meeting place?
