Living in Roxboro
Roxboro is a small town with a little slower pace
from our larger neighboring communities. In an effort
to make finding the services needed for day to day
life easy, we have gathered the basic services that
make life a little easier.
Auto Registration Plates
All new residents
of North Carolina are required to purchase license
plates upon establishing residency. Contact the
Department of Motor Vehicles on Highway #49 South
(597-5636) for information regarding purchasing
plates and vehicle inspections.
Liability insurance is required on all vehicles
and a certificate of insurance from the insurer
must be presented with the application for license.
You may register your vehicle and purchase plates at

Drivers license
All residents are required to have a North Carolina
Driver's License which may be obtained at the Department
of Motor Vehicles. Applicants must take the oral
or written examination and are subject , to a driving
test. At the time for renewal drivers are required
to take the eye exam and road sign test.
A Class C (regular) driver's license is $4.00 per
year (varying from 4 to 8 years). Contact the DMV
for information on Class A and B driver's licenses,
duplicate license, ID cards and learners permit.
All licenses expire on your birthday. You are required
to have your address changed within 60 days.

Motor Cycle operation
A drivers license is required to operate on public streets
and highways. Operators must be at least age 16.
North Carolina State laws requires drivers and
riders to wear helmets. For more information

Marriage license
A marriage license is valid
for 60 days after the issue date. There is no waiting
period. The couple must present a certified copy
of their birth certificates and show their driver's
licenses or Social Security Cards. If either person
has been divorced they must present a copy of the
judgment. If either party in the couple wishing
to be married is under 18 their parents are required
to sign the marriage license. The cost of the license
is $40.00 and may be obtained at the:

Voter registration
To become a registered voter
you must be:
A citizen of the United States
A resident of Person County for at least 30 days
prior to the next election.
