In 1995, the City of Roxboro was named a Main Street Community by the North Carolina Main Street program. Since that time, the responsibility for revitalization efforts has evolved to transcend both the City of Roxboro’s Uptown Development Department, and the Roxboro Development Group, a 501-(c)3 non-profit organization.
The Planning and Development department works in conjunction with the Roxboro Development Group to achieve economic development through the context of historic preservation in Uptown Roxboro. Providing staff to the organization, the Community Planner serves as Executive Director for RDG and utilizes the Main Street Four-Point Approach® to revitalization. These two entities join forces to develop the Uptown district through attention to organization, promotion, design, and economic restructuring.
Since it’s inception over twenty years ago, the Roxboro Development Group has seen tremendous growth and transformation in Uptown Roxboro. Thanks to the guidance and support of local businesses, property owners, residents, and volunteers, Uptown Roxboro serves as the center of community celebration. Beautiful, tree-lined streets are home to family-owned businesses, annual events and parades, as well as residential dwellings designed with young professionals in mind. Whether looking for a place to live, work, or simply visit for the day, Uptown Roxboro is sure to please.
