Safety
Training
The City believes
that a major element of
our safety program is personal
communication with all employees.
Through safety
training, we hope our city employees will be less
likely to be injured or involved in accidents while
at the same time developing better safety practices,
knowledge and attitudes. The City does
both in-house
training and brings in consultants to ensure compliance
with State and Federal regulations. The City currently
conducts monthly safety classes that keep our employees
trained and up to date with safety topics like Haz
Com, Lockout/Tagout, Bloodborne Pathogens, and for
the departments that dig, shoring and trenching.
Employees acquire training through classroom discussions;
slide presentations or viewing safety videos.
Inspections

|
The Safety Review
Committee makes several visits to our department
during the course of the year. Committee members
pair up and using check sheets, conduct walk through
safety inspections of our city observing unsafe
work practices or conditions. Results and recommendations
of our inspections are forwarded to department heads
for review.
|
In addition to the safety
committee departmental safety inspections, the
City will often contract with a safety professional
to makeon site safety inspections. The results
of these inspections are a hard copy report of
problem areas with results and recommendations
forwarded to management. The City of Roxboro strives
to provide a safe working environment for all
our employees. |
Fire Extinguisher Training
Quick action during a fire can save not only property
but lives as well.
City of Roxboro employees learn
about fire prevention, types of fires and how
to properly use fire extinguishers. Utilizing
the P.A.S.S. fire fighting technique, employees
stand near a tub filled with hot flaming liquid
and learn how to property extinguish small fires.
With the help of our Fire Department, City employees
train on site at their respective departments
to receive the latest "hands on" training.
Fire extinguisher training is a City employee
favorite!
