Zoning Ordinance

The Zoning Ordinance, adopted in 1964, regulates how land may be developed within the City. It addresses: zoning districts and respective provisions, special use permits, street access, signs, off-street parking and loading requirements, nonconforming situations, administration and enforcement, zoning permit application & issuance, certificate of compliance, violation and penalties, Board of Adjustment, text amendments, Planning Board, mobile home parks, sexually oriented businesses, etc.

Subdivision Regulations

The Subdivision Regulations, adopted August 13, 1964 establishes the minimum standards for the subdivision of land in and around the City. The ordinance provides for the orderly development of the municipality and its environs; for the coordination of streets with other public facilities; for the dedication and reservation of rights-of-way for street or utility easements; and for the distribution of population and traffic in order to avoid congestion and overcrowding; and which will try to create conditions essential to the public health, safety and welfare.

Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance

The Legislature of the State of North Carolina has in Part 6, Article 21 of Chapter 143; Parts 3,5 and 8 of Article 19 of Chapter 160A; and Article 8 of Chapter 160A of the North Carolina General Statues, delegated the responsibility to local governmental units to adopt regulations designed to promote the public health, safety, and general welfare of its citizenry. Therefore, the City of Roxboro, North Carolina does ordain as follows:
