What does the City of Roxboro charge for garbage collection services?
The City does not charge any fee for residential garbage collection. The City charges a monthly fee for commercial garbage collection services based on a monthly rental fee for dumpsters and a charge for each time the dumpster is emptied. The fees for dumpsters and 90 gallon roll out carts are shown below:.

The total monthly fee is based on an average of 4.333 weeks for each month. The total monthly fee is calculated as follows:
(Number of Weekly Pick Ups X 4.333) + Rental Fee = Total Monthly Fee

The City does not provide garbage collection services for industrial customers. Industries may contract with private companies to provide this service.
Are commercial customers required to have a dumpster or roll out cart?
Yes. All commercial businesses inside the City limits must use either a City dumpster or a
90 gallon roll out cart to dispose of trash. However, commercial customers may sign a written agreement with the City stating that the business will be solely responsible for delivering its trash to the landfill on Highway 158 East operated by Upper Piedmont Environmental. Therefore, the City will not pick up any trash from this business and will not charge any fees for trash collection.
However, the business cannot dispose of its trash in any other dumpster rented by another business. Also, the business will be responsible for paying any landfill fees charged by Upper Piedmont Environmental.
May a business use more than 1 90-gallon roll out cart?
Yes. A business may use 1 or 2 roll out carts per business location. The business will be charged $28.00 for this service. If the volume of trash exceeds the capacity of 2 roll out carts, the business will be required to switch to a dumpster.
May businesses contract with private companies for trash collection services?
No. The City does not allow private companies to contract directly with commercial businesses inside the City limits. Also, the rates charged by the City of Roxboro are significantly less than the fees charged by many private companies.
May two or more businesses share a dumpster?
Yes. The City will allow up to 4 businesses to share one dumpster. The monthly fees will be divided equally among those businesses.
May businesses request additional pick-ups if the volume of trash is higher than normal?
Yes. The City will make additional pick ups of trash at the request of commercial customers. The customer will be charged a fee of $10.20, $15.25, or $20.40, respectively, for each additional pick up for a 4, 6 or 8 yard dumpster. Please call the Public Services Department at (336) 503-0489 or (336) 599-5658 to request additional pick ups.
How may a business request a dumpster for cardboard only?

The Recycling Center located on Madison Blvd. accepts cardboard at no charge and will accept large quantities for more information call 336-597-4437.
Does the City pick up white goods such as appliances?
For white goods such as appliances to be picked up, you must call Roxboro's Clearinghouse at 336-599-5658 for collection. By leaving the goods at the curb or on side of the road for extended period of time can be a danger to public health and safety. Please call first.
How can a business prevent unauthorized use of its dumpster by other businesses or residents from outside the City who dump trash in commercial dumpster during nights and weekends?
The City can install, at your option, a lid with an automatic lock on the top your dumpster. There is no additional charge for this lid. Also you may place a lock on the sliding door on the side of your dumpster. However, this will not prevent unauthorized persons from dumping trash around or on top of your dumpster. You may also place a fence or other enclosure around your dumpster. However, the dumpster must be accessible to the City's garbage trucks in order for the City to provide trash collection services.
If you see any unauthorized persons placing trash in your dumpster, please report the incident to the Roxboro Police Department at (336) 599-8345. If possible, please provide a description of the vehicle and license plate number to the Police Department.
What should I do if the City does not pick up my trash?
If the City does not pick up your trash on its regularly scheduled route, please contact the Public Services Department at (336) 503-0490 or (336) 599-5658.
For commercial customers, the City cannot empty dumpsters if the dumpster is blocked by other vehicles. Please do not allow your customers or employees to park in front of the dumpsters. If your dumpster is not picked up as scheduled, the City will issue a credit on your monthly bill. However, the City will not credit your account if the City was unable to provide service due to other vehicles blocking the path to your dumpster.
How are commercial businesses billed for garbage collection services?
Garbage collection services are billed along with your monthly water and sewer bill. All due dates, deposits, late payment fees, and other policies applicable to water and sewer customers are also applicable to garbage customers.
